It's designed for any heating engineers, but especially those installing residential air source heat pumps.
We use a range of data sources about the property—including EPC building fabric descriptions—to estimate U-values for walls, roofs, floors, windows, and doors, following methods outlined in the CIBSE Domestic Heating Design Guide. The tool may also suggest possible construction materials present in the property. These are AI-generated estimates that should be verified on-site, as exact construction details often require physical inspection.
Because the AI estimates are based on typical construction methods and available data, they may not capture specific details unique to the property. On-site verification ensures that you have accurate U-values and construction details for your heat loss calculations.
For example, if the property has recently been extended, we may not have up-to-date information on the construction of this extension, and building fabrics used wouldn’t be included in the estimates.
The U-values estimated are based on typical construction methods and materials as suggested by, for example, the UK CIBSE guidelines. However, actual U-values can vary, so it's important to verify them on-site to ensure compliance and accuracy in your calculations.
Indoor Design Temperatures are based on CIBSE residential building guidelines and are provided for each room type. These temperatures help you design a heating system that maintains comfortable conditions throughout the property.
The Air Changes section estimates the number of air changes per hour (ACH) due to ventilation and infiltration, based on the property's age, the presence of chimneys or flues, and room volumes, as per CIBSE guidelines. The tool does not adjust the recommended ACH values. Instead, it selects one of the three property category types (A, B, or C) and shows the values for that property.
If a property's EPC data isn't available, the tool may have limited information. You'll need to collect additional data during your site visit to complete your calculations.
The tool uses the latest available data, but recent renovations or extensions may not be reflected. For example, after a property’s EPC has been updated, it may take up to a month for changes to be made available. You should verify any changes during your site visit.

Not yet. At the moment you need an internet connection to use Aireo. However, we do have plans to build Aireo mobile apps that work offline.
